District Five Director Karen Garcia was re-appointed to the Hot Springs Board of Directors in June 2017 after serving from 2011 to 2014. Following her first board term, she continued a lifelong pattern of community service, volunteering for Head Start and Early Head Start and currently serving on the city’s Airport Advisory Committee and the Business Advisory Committee for Henderson State University. An active member of many area clubs and organizations, she is also the recipient of numerous business and leadership awards, most recently the Assistant Governor of the Year from Rotary District 6170. She retired from Weyerhaeuser in 2014 after a 27-year career. A certified public accountant and graduate of LeadAR, the state’s leadership program, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR. She has been named Woman of the Year by the Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce and by the Business and Professional Women/Arkansas Chapter, and twice by the Spa Area Business and Professional Women. A past president of the Sunrise Rotary, she is also a 2010 inductee into the Henderson State University Business Hall of Fame.
