Upon the news of yesterday's passing of former Arkansas Governor and U.S. Senator Dale Bumpers, the Hot Springs Board of Directors and city staff extend their sincere sympathy to his family and friends.
Senator Bumpers served the U.S. Senate from 1975 until 1999, also serving as Arkansas' governor from 1971 to 1975.
"Senator Bumpers was a good friend to Hot Springs and Garland County," said Acting City Manager Bill Burrough. "He was an avid protector of our native environment's wildlife and natural beauty. He played a key role in the renaissance of Hot Springs' downtown, particularly during the late 1980's into the early 1990's. We appreciate all he has done for Hot Springs and for our state. He will truly be missed."
