The City of Hot Springs will accept board and commission applications until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2015 for a total of 17 volunteer advisory positions. Applicants must be registered voters of the City of Hot Springs (unless otherwise specified). Board and commission members are appointed by the Board of Directors. Most groups meet in the Board Chambers at City Hall, 133 Convention Boulevard. The openings include:
Three openings for city residents on the Animal Control Advisory Committee. This committee assists the Animal Services Department in evaluating policies and procedures, including public education efforts concerning responsible pet ownership, and meets as needed.
One opening for city residents on the Arts Advisory Committee, whose responsibilities are to review and recommend placement of permanent art at publicly-owned facilities in the city; to assist in the organization and promotion of temporary art exhibits at publicly-owned facilities; and to assist in the securing of private grant funding and art donations for permanent art displays at public buildings in the city. Meetings are held in the City Hall Board Chambers on an as-needed basis.
Two openings for city residents (Position one-District 1, Position 2-at-large city resident) on the Community Development Advisory Committee. The committee evaluates and establishes operating policies and procedures for CDBG Entitlement Program and meets the first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m.
Two openings for Historic District Commission, which oversees historic district rules and regulations. One opening must be an owner of real property, or officer or stockholder of owner of real property, or business owner, or officer or stockholder of businesses within the Pleasant Street Historic District. The second opening is for an architect who may, but is not required to be, an owner of real property, or officer or stockholder of an owner of real property, or business owner, or officer of stockholder of a business within either the Central Avenue or the Pleasant Street Historic District.
Two openings for city residents (Position 1-District 2 and Position 2- District 5)—Planning Commission—The commission reviews all land development proposals within the city and subdivisions outside the corporate limits to insure compliance with the zoning code. The commission meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.
Three openings for city residents on the Transportation Advisory Committee, which assists the Board of Directors and city staff in the establishment of policies for the city’s public transit system and public transportation issues of a general nature. Meetings are held as needed at the Transportation Depot.
Four openings for city residents on the Urban Forestry Committee. This committee promotes, protects, and enhances the beauty, environmental benefits and general welfare of Hot Springs’ urban forest. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Engineering Department Conference Room in City Hall.
