Municipal Utilities crews restored water service to the Crystal Springs area at approximately 3 p.m. today, but a boil order is still in effect for residents and businesses on the following streets: North Crystal Springs Road, Dogget Drive, Crystal Place, Cordell Drive, Cordell Terrace, Dudley Circle, Kelso Lane, Cordell Trail, Cordell Court, Hickory Nut Mountain Road, Crystal Campground Road and Safari Way. The boil order was issued this morning following a water main which was washed away due to flooding during last night’s heavy rainfall. The area, mostly residential, involves less than 100 utility customer addresses.
Residents in the affected area are advised that the water may be unsafe for human consumption due to the possibility that contaminated water may have entered the distribution system. Water used for drinking or food preparation must be boiled briskly for one minute prior to use. All ice cubes should be discarded and only boiled water used for making ice.
The boil order will be lifted by the Department of Health when one set of bacteriological samples indicate that the water is free of bacterial contamination and an adequate disinfectant level is established throughout the distribution system. Samples will be submitted to the Health Department on Tuesday morning. For information, call 321-6200.
