Based on information from the Hot Springs Police Department, the following is an update on the ongoing efforts to locate and secure two of the six buffalo that escaped yesterday morning from Shady Grove Farm, located near Shady Grove Road.
At this time, the Hot Springs Police Department, Garland County Sheriff’s Office and the farm owner continue to search for the two buffalo that they believe are still in a densely wooded area near Malvern Avenue/Bellaire Drive. Law enforcement patrols have increased in the area. Trees and undergrowth, combined with the area’s hilly terrain, have posed challenges to the search. The area offers ample food and water supply.
“There are many who have helped the Police Department and Sheriff’s Office in this effort, including Hot Springs Animal Services, Utilities, Street, City Manager David Watkins and his staff, Benton Animal Control, Little Rock Zoo, as well as area neighbors and volunteer residents,” said HSPD Assistant Chief Jason Stachey. “We are doing everything we can to assist the owner in safely locating and returning the remaining buffalo. Our main concern is for the public’s safety and that of the buffalo. We urge the public not to approach them if sighted, but to notify the Hot Springs Police Department immediately by calling 911.”
