[ARCHIVED] Public cautioned as authorities work to secure buffalo herd

The Hot Springs Police Department, with the assistance of Hot Springs Animal Services and the Garland County Sheriff’s Office are currently attempting to contain approximately six buffalo that escaped this morning from a local farm located near Shady Grove Road. The owners and handlers of the buffalo are also assisting in the effort.

The first sighting was at approximately 4 a.m., when a report was received of a vehicle striking one of the buffalo on Golf Links Road. At this time, no significant injuries to the animals or to citizens have been reported. No property damage has been reported other than landscaping being trampled and damages to the one vehicle involved. One buffalo is contained at this time, and efforts are ongoing to contain the rest of the animals. The public’s vigilance is requested until all the animals are secured. The accident report will be made available, along with additional information, as soon as possible.
