[ARCHIVED] City accepts applications until May 1 for advisory group positions

The City of Hot Springs will accept applications until 5 p.m. on Friday, May 1 for a total of 27 volunteer advisory group positions. Applicants must be registered voters of the City of Hot Springs (unless otherwise specified). Board and commission members are appointed by the Board of Directors and meet in the City Hall Board Chambers, 133 Convention Boulevard. Applications are available online at www.cityhs.net or in the Office of the City Clerk, 133 Convention Boulevard. For information call Leslie Kauffman, 321-6805.

Three openings for city residents on the Animal Control Advisory Committee. This committee assists the Animal Services Department in evaluating policies and procedures including public education efforts concerning responsible pet ownership and meets as needed.

Two openings for city residents on the Arts Advisory Committee whose responsibilities are to review and recommend placement of permanent art at publicly-owned facilities in the city; to assist in the organization and promotion of temporary art exhibits at publicly-owned facilities; and to assist in the securing of private grant funding and art donations for permanent art displays at public buildings in the city. Meetings are held on an as-needed basis.

Two openings from city residents on the Board of Adjustments and Appeals / Board of Zoning Adjustment. The dual committee hears appeals of enforcement and application of development codes and meets the fourth Monday of the month at 4 p.m.

One opening for a city resident on the Civil Service Commission. The commission performs various personnel-related functions related to the city's uniformed departments (fire and police) including administration of hiring and promotional testing. The commission consists of five members and is established pursuant to state law.

Two openings on the Community Development Advisory Committee, one position to be filled by a resident of Board District #1 and one at large position. The committee evaluates and establishes operating policies and procedures for the CDBG Entitlement Program and meets the first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m.

Two openings on the Historic District Commission. The commission oversees historic district rules and regulations. One opening must be an owner of real property, or officer or stockholder of an owner of real property, or business owner, or officer or stockholder of businesses within the Pleasant Street Historic District. The second opening is for an architect who may, but is not required to be, an owner of real property, or officer or stockholder of an owner of real property, or business owner, or officer of stockholder of a business within either the Central Avenue or the Pleasant Street Historic District.

Three openings for city residents on the Parks and Trails Advisory Committee. This committee provides guidance and oversight of the city’s parks and trails, planning and policy development. Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at 5 p.m.

Three openings for city residents (Position 1 - District 1, Position 2 - District 2 and Position 3 - At-Large City Resident) on the Planning Commission. The commission reviews all land development proposals within the city and subdivisions outside the corporate limits to insure compliance with the Zoning Code. The commission meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

Five openings for city residents on the Transportation Advisory Committee. This committee assists the Board of Directors and city staff in establishing policies for the city’s public transit system and public transportation issues of a general nature. Meetings are held as needed.

Four openings for city residents on the Urban Forestry Committee. This committee promotes, protects, and enhances the beauty, environmental benefits and general welfare of the city’s urban forest. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.
