The public’s patience is appreciated as detours are announced for the 33st annual Spa 5K/10K race, hosted by the Spa Pacers on Saturday, November 22. The public is encouraged to stop and cheer on the runners. Travel will be slow during the race, and motorists are advised to take alternate routes.
The Spa 5K/10K begins at 8 a.m. on Convention Boulevard and concludes at 9:30 a.m. Approximately 1,000 runners will participate in the race. Central Ave and Reserve Street should be cleared of runners by around 8:15 a.m.
Approximately 800 participants will run on West Mountain Drive from 8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. Vehicle travel on this road will be slow and dangerous during this time. Motorists should plan their trips accordingly and use an alternate route when possible.
Runners will travel Central Avenue from Spring Street to Whittington Avenue from 8:05 a.m. until about 8:20 a.m. Motorists traveling south from the Whittington Avenue area during the race are advised to take Central Avenue to Reserve Street, merge with Spring Street and proceed to Grand Avenue.
Motorists in the Quapaw Avenue area east of Fern Street should take Prospect Avenue to Exchange Street, Exchange Street to Court Street, cross Central Avenue to Reserve, take Reserve, merge with Spring Street and proceed to Grand Avenue.
Motorists west of Flint Street or South of Orange Street can take Grand Avenue to Spring Street, then Spring Street into the downtown area.
