Hot Springs City Manager Bill Burrough was re-elected to a third term as president of the Mid-Arkansas Water Alliance (MAWA) in January 2021.

Burrough has been on the MAWA Board of Directors since 2012. MAWA is a not-for-profit, Arkansas public benefit membership corporation organized and incorporated on April 4, 2003, for the purpose of representing its membership in seeking long-term solutions for providing potable water to the Central Arkansas area.

The alliance has 20 public or nonprofit water providers in its membership, which consists of public or nonprofit entities that perform the functions of water treatment, storage or distribution in the following nine Arkansas counties: Pulaski, Saline, Garland, Faulkner, Conway, Lonoke, Cleburne, Perry and White.

The alliance has two working groups – Northern and Southern – which are separated by the Arkansas River. The Northern group has focused on water supply from Greer’s Ferry Lake, while the Southern has focused on Lake Ouachita. The alliance has been successful in both groups signing water storage agreements with the U.S. Corps of Engineers for both lakes.
