[ARCHIVED] HSPD officers apprehend suspected shoplifter in possession of firearms

On November 3, 2020, at approximately 7:35 a.m., Hot Springs Police Department officers responded to Dodge’s, 640 E. Grand Avenue, in reference to a theft. The suspect was observed shoplifting items on the previous day, and was observed by staff members taking more items when he returned to the store on this day. Officers encountered the suspect, identified as Brian Scott Rogers, 30, of Hot Springs, as he fled from the area. When contact was made, Rogers produced a firearm and threatened to harm himself while moving away from officers. Officers trailed Rogers while attempting to de-escalate the situation. Due to his continued behavior, a Taser was effectively deployed, and Rogers was placed into custody. Rogers, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of another firearm as well as the one he displayed, with one found to be listed as stolen.

Rogers was placed into custody for two counts of Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons, Theft by Receiving of a Firearm, and Fleeing and Resisting Arrest. Rogers was also noted to have multiple warrants out of another jurisdiction.

If anyone has any additional information in reference to this incident, please contact Cpl. Jjesus Anaya at 501-321-6789.
