[ARCHIVED] 70 West fire hydrant flow testing for Oct. 15

The 70 West Fire Protection District will be continuing hydrant flow testing today, Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Sunshine Community and surrounding areas, including the following:

Timberlake Drive; Farquharson Lane; Sunshine and Whitfield roads; as well as all streets off the main thoroughfares

During hydrant maintenance and testing, water lines are flushed in order to test hydrant flow and water pressure levels for fire control purposes. Testing also provides invaluable data on the water systems and is a part of the process to help continue to lower insurance rates for those companies who go by ISO Standards. Although testing crews do all they can to minimize discoloration of water during this process, water customers in the immediate vicinity of the work may experience temporary water discoloration. If this takes place, customers are advised to clear the pipes in their home or business by running all the water faucets for a few minutes, and to postpone laundry as the discolored water can stain clothes. This discoloration usually lasts no more than a few hours, affecting only the appearance of the water, not the taste or quality. If discoloration lasts more than 24 hours, contact the Utilities Service Center at 501-321-6200. If traveling in the testing areas, please drive slowly and with caution out of the safety for the firefighter crews.
