The City of Hot Springs Solid Waste’s annual Spring Fling Citywide Cleanup event that was previously postponed has been officially cancelled for 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic. In its place, however, Hot Springs residents will be allotted one additional free pickup from the Clean, Attractive Property Service (CAPS) program.
The Spring Fling event offers City residents the opportunity to fill roll-off containers placed in all six City districts during the cleanup, and to put large or bulky items next to the containers for removal. The CAPS program, for which City Utility residential customers are already given two free annual pickups, offers the chance to dispose of large bulky items such as couches, mattresses, furniture, brush and appliances, including washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers and water heaters.
For disposal of E-waste, a two-day event sponsored by the Southwest Central Regional Solid Waste Management District in Hot Springs is scheduled for 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on August 14-15, 2020, at the Hot Springs Convention Center.
To schedule a CAPS pickup or for more information, call 501-321-6921.
The CAPS schedule is as follows:
- Mondays and Thursdays – Brush: Must be cut 6 feet in length or less, and be no larger than 24 inches in diameter; cannot be mixed with trash, wood, paper, cans, bottles or wire
- Tuesdays and Fridays – Miscellaneous: Items to be picked up include couches, mattresses, furniture, wood and building materials; items for pick up cannot be mixed with household garbage, plastic bags, cardboard, paint, batteries or tires
- Wednesdays – Metal: Items to be picked up include dishwashers, washers, dryers, refrigerators, water heaters and other metal items; food must be removed from refrigerators and freezers
Items scheduled for pickup must be placed curbside by 6 a.m. Solid Waste offers special assistance to the disabled and elderly. At least 20 feet of overhead clearance is needed to safely operate the CAPS equipment, so items cannot be placed under low power lines or tree limbs.
