HOT SPRINGS – The Hot Springs Parks & Recreation Department will launch a four-day celebration of the grand opening of the Valley Street Skatepark with an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, followed by refreshments and demonstrations by selected skateboarders. The public is welcome to attend.
Immediately following the ceremony, open skating will be allowed. All skaters are encouraged to wear protective helmets, elbow and knee pads while skating.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday festivities, sponsored by Partners of the Park, will include skate competitions, food, prizes, live music, skate games and free skate. Contests will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 7 p.m., with intervals of free skate between heats throughout the day.
The park is located at 411 Valley Street. Additional event sponsors include Lakepointe Church, Nom Noms, Spa City Skate Shop, Diamond Lakes Water Sports, Low Key Arts, Teen Challenge and the Hot Springy Dingy. For information, call 321-6871.
