On Saturday, June 22nd, 2019 the Hot Springs Police Department responded to 315 North Patterson Street, in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival officers discovered Stephanie Malicoat (40) of Hot Springs deceased inside the residence from a gunshot wound. At that time the suspect Lavar Strickland (42) of Hot Springs was charged with Criminal Use of a Prohibited Weapon and Possession of a Defaced Firearm.
On June 24, 2019, Strickland was charged with Murder 2nd Degree and 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor (Felony), in addition to the previously mentioned charges.
He is being held on a $600,000 bond at the Garland County Detention Center.
