HSPD Child Car Seat Safety Clinic
Sunday, April 2, 2023
A car seat checkup will be conducted from 9 a.m. until noon on Sunday April 2, 2023, at the Hot Springs Police Department (HSPD), 641 Malvern Avenue.
Trained child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to educate parents on the best way to restrain their children while they are riding in a car.
Selection of an appropriate seat for the child’s height, weight, and age, seating position, and proper installation work together to protect children in the event of a motor vehicle crash. “A child can be riding in a seat appropriate for him, but if the seat moves more than an inch from side to side or is located behind an airbag, serious injury can still occur,” according to Sgt. John Tinney with HSPD. “In fact, nine out of every ten seats that we check are in need of correction. It may be as uncomplicated as tightening the harness on a child who weighs less than 65 pounds, but that simple correction can save a life.”
Parents and caregivers will need to bring their children, their car seats and the vehicle used most often to transport them. For more information, please contact HSPD at 501-321-6789.
