NATE BLACKSTEAD spent 2-3 hours each shift for several weeks rewiring the light fixtures and replacing the old florescent bulbs with new LED bulbs in the living quarters of Fire Station 6, 220 Lakeshore Drive. The old fixtures were becoming problematic, and many were failing. Also, the new LED bulbs provide the same amount of light while saving money for the city.
"What particularly impressed me was that he worked on the project after all of his daily assignments and special projects of repainting the interior of our station each shift," wrote Capt. Josh Lacy, who, along with Lt. Kevin McCain, nominated Nate for the HERO award.
